Did you know that the worlds first photograph was created using a blend of lavender oil and light-sensitive petroleum tar?

What an extraordinary moment it must have been for Joseph Nicéphore Niépce and the world at large!

This remarkable individual from Eastern France applied the mixture to a polished pewter plate, then placed it in a camera obscura, exposing it to sunlight for several days.

To develop the image, he used a combination of lavender oil and white petroleum to wash the pewter plate, dissolving the bitumen that remained unexposed to light.

This groundbreaking photograph was the first ever captured using a camera obscura that projected the image onto a wall, and it was created through a process called heliography, derived from the Greek words for "sun" and "writing."

It’s astounding to consider how far we’ve come since this initial photograph was taken in 1826 or 1827. Joseph Niépce accomplished the incredible feat of producing the earliest surviving camera image.
